Why is my Koi Pond water green?
My pond is completely new, only been applied already for 3 weeks or so. I have a bomb 3100 GPH with Bio Filter, also have a 18 watt UV light. all brand new. my pond water is turning green. algae growing on rocks It seems to be the green water. I tried last night algae review. my pond is a stone on the bottom line approximately 1300 gallons. what I can do? Not I can not believe that was so green in such a short time. all responses and input will be greatly appreciated. I understand it, is probably an algal bloom, but I thought the UV light is supposed to help with this? Microbe-Lift will help?
Hello What is an algal bloom and believe it or not that means that pond is healthy. However, it can be very unpleasant. algal bloom like yours come to have much sunlight and high levels of nitrate in the water in your pond. By ultraviolet light, I hope you're referring to an ultraviolet sterilizer. UV sterilizers kill only bacteria and algae in water is not what is in your stones or plants. I suggest you make a change 25 percent water and put a shade cloth over the pond for a while a see if that helps. You may also want to plant trees around your pond for them to Shadow a few years. You did not say what was the size of the filter for your pond, but you may consider getting one that is only slightly larger. I found and increase in volume of the filter time is often a little help with algae problems. Also adding some plants to your pond will help with filtration levels High in the pond.
