Lighting of the Coral
By adding coral to your aquarium is important to remember that they need more light than most other life forms may specifically because they want to add that feed on fats and amino acids created through photosynthesis by algae living in symbiosis with them, called zooxanthellae. Without light, therefore, the zooxanthellae can not produce food and coral perish.
Some species of coral that can survive the normal amount of lighting, so for the beginner, you may want to stick to these species. Specifically, Mushroom coral and coral polyps can survive with normal lighting techniques.
By contrast, species such as the SPS (Small polyp stony corals) that include Acoropora, Montipora, Porites, Brain Coral, Bubble Coral, Elegance Coral, Cup Coral, Torch Coral, Trumpet Coral and require much greater intensity lighting, making it a much greater challenge for aquarium hobbyists, especially more light into account usually means more harmful algae will grow in the tank.
The best light technique to keep your insurance coral is Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology, which has begun to make the above rules: gas and incandescent lighting systems obsolete. Though initially more expensive than gas and incandescent systems, over time it saves money because they use less energy and have a longer shelf life, which means lower costs replacement without complications.
Importantly, the process of photosynthesis of zooxanthellae require light of two different colors: red and blue, for what the fish Tank Light often exude a purple hue, as most of them offer both the colors as an industry standard.
While it is essential have the least amount of light in order to meet the minimum requirements needed for photosynthesis xooxanthellae to work, it is also important to note that tolerance has an upper limit as well. Your lights should therefore be at the center or the bad things happen to both zooxanthellae, and as a byproduct, the coral.
While not an exact science as much or as little light xooxanthellae depends on how many of them live in the coral, which can range from thousands to millions, but a good place to start would be to ensure that its intensity is 3000-lux minimum and does not go over 120,000 lux. While this may seem a quite extensive range, which have to make determinations based on the conduct of its coral.
Good quality types of lamps include fluorescent use, and you should use six lamps, or if your aquarium is not large enough for that, then it is recommended that instead of using the high-output lamps, which are more expensive, but necessary. You must replace these bulbs every six months. Energy CFLs, which are U-shaped, are an even better option, and you only need four.
Coral is an excellent addition to any aquarium, and many Coral Fish enjoyed as a food source. Whether you have added coral to your aquarium to survive to or as support for their fish, you must have the correct lighting or not survive.
