Light for a 55gallon (48 ") Reef Tank?
Hello, I want to start a reef tank 55gallon a standard size (48 " wide). What is the most affordable to buy lighting for coral growth good? I want to keep it as cheap as possible, but I'm willing to spend up to $ 250 for lighting. Currently, the tank has a decorative piece of wood that fits over the hood with two fluorescent lamps down there, each about 24 inches. I know these are not good for corals. Should I try to convert that somehow or simply having an illumination unit that fits directly over an open tank? The latter seems to be better for heat dissipation. I have Live Rock and sand. Besides, how often you have the light for good coral growth? If You can attach a link or two that would be super! Thanks! Brett
if you want the cheapest possible you can build your own ….. I have done, or simply ….. buy a unit, though 250 will not much like most likly under fed as you need about 450 watts for the hard corals ……
