Bio Filter
Traveling with a biological filter?
In several months, I intend to move and have to move my 20-gallon Freshwater Fish. Although I'm sure it will be pretty hectic, and you may lose some fish, I wanted some advice on how to move my bio-security filter, so that not crash. I would move the Penguin Bio-wheel filter and would have to "hold" that at most one or two days during the moving process. Any suggestions or advice would be useful. Thank you!
It is very possible and easy. I carried Filter Media, and even experienced a mini cycle. The trick is to treat filter media as a fish. Place in a bag with water treated in the same temperature. Also, adding a bag of friends to the bag. Bacteria need oxygen, like fish. While the bacteria can survive without the other party, it does not hurt, and you can use for your fish too. Put the filter in the same cooler that is used to transport your fish.
