Aquarium and Pond UV Sterilization; Truths and Myths and Why is it important
Ultraviolet sterilization is one of the most effective means control algae (green water) in ponds and is also effective in the prevention of diseases in aquariums and ponds and in general to control water quality in aquariums and ponds. There are a lot of new evidence regarding the benefits of UV sterilization for all fish, and many myths have been dispelled, as "Sterilizers UV destroys beneficial nitrifying bacteria, so please read on.
UV rays are also useful in reef tanks, especially the new, where the potential for introduction of disease is high and the UV rays help in keeping a balanced redox potential is useful. As the ages of reef aquariums, the sterilizer can be placed on a timer or switched on and off as needed.
On the redox potential, this is an aspect often overlooked by both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The redox potential is basically the oxidation and reduction of water properties.
